COMMUNITY PROJECTS

As an art therapist informed by feminism and social justice, I love collaborating with communities.  If you are interested in bringing a project to your community, I will work with you to develop an approach that will help you achieve your goals.  Following are a few examples of my experience developing and providing groups and workshops.

Culture For One

New York, NY

Since 2014, I have collaborated with Culture For One, a non-profit that provides art programming for children in foster care.  My work has included: leading art therapy workshops for children in temporary care, providing art making workshops to support family bonding, developing and leading art therapy programs for adolescents, supporting mentorship meetings, providing art therapy workshops to unaccompanied migrant children of all ages, and consultation.

Photography Workshop

Santurce, Puerto Rico

July 2018

This grassroots project was developed, fundraised, and provided in collaboration with fellow art therapist Marion Pope, Salon 610 (a community arts space in Santurce, Puerto Rico), La PANAdería, and many generous funders.

We created the workshop in response to the devastation of Hurricane Maria on Puerto Rico. The workshop provided an outlet for adolescents to develop their self-expression, showcase their identity, and amplify their voices. The project culminated in an art exhibit open to the community.

We additionally provided a free multi-day self-care workshop for teachers from a variety of educational settings and backgrounds who simultaneously contended personally and professionally with the impact of Maria.

Sad Girls Club

New York, NY

August 2017

Sad Girls Club is a nonprofit with a social media platform and meet ups created to bring together women and girls with mental illnesses with the goals of removing stigma and creating community.  In collaboration with Elyse Fox, founder of Sad Girls Club, and artist Laura McGinley, we provided an "art in the park day" to offer participants an opportunity for self-care and in-person supportive discussion.
