FAQ
WORKING TOGETHER
What can I expect from working together?
Therapy sessions are typically 50 minutes in length and occur on a weekly basis. My style is collaborative and individually centered. The first 3 sessions we will discuss your background and goals. We will then make a plan for how we can work together to support your mental health.
How long does therapy last?
This depends on your goals. Making progress takes time but it is a meaningful investment in yourself! Some people come to therapy with the goal of having longterm support and continued growth. Others are looking to work through a specific challenge and feel ready to move on after a few months. We can discuss what is right for you in a consultation.
Do I need to be an artist?
While I often work with artists and artistic people, you do not need to be an artist to work with me. Some clients choose to make art in every session, some prefer talking, and others choose a blend. I may suggest art making exercises to support your mental health goals in our work together but ultimately sessions will be tailored to your comfort level and preferences.
I am interested in working with you individually, what's the next step?
Great! Please contact me to set up a brief, complimentary phone session so that we can see if we will be a good fit.
What is your fee? Do you accept a sliding scale?
We can discuss my fee in our initial consultation, I have a limited number of slots available for sliding-fee based on need.
Do you accept insurance?
I am in-network with Cigna. For all other insurance providers, I am happy to help you get reimbursed (if your plan allows).
Where are you located?
My office is located in Brooklyn at 26 Court Street. I additionally have online availability for New York residents.
ART THERAPY
What is Art Therapy?
Art therapy is creating art, with the support of a licensed and certified art therapist, for a variety of mental health and personal goals including (but not limited to): stress relief, anxiety reduction, expressing emotions, gaining insight, finding clarity, and developing connections.
In art therapy we often emphasis the artistic "process over product” meaning the experience of creating art is usually more important than the aesthetic value of the final piece. People are often pleasantly surprised to find that art allows them to express emotions and thoughts that are hard to find the words for.
What level of training do art therapists have?
Art therapists are masters-level clinicians educated in psychotherapy, art media theory, and development. In addition, art therapists in New York State earn a license to practice and can earn a national board certification.
What is the difference between an art therapy group and an art class?
Although you may learn a new artistic skill in an art therapy group, the focus is on self-expression and gaining new insights through shared experience. Art therapy groups may be structured or open studio, but in general the emphasis is placed on the experience and it is open to individuals of any skill level. Additionally, trained art therapists provide group members with emotional support and reflection.
Do you offer workshops?
Yes! I have broad experience offering workshops for community organizations and companies. Please be in touch if this is something you are interested in.
